About Laura
Laura Conway is a proud Wayzata parent and longtime community advocate who believes every child deserves the opportunity to thrive. Laura is running for the Wayzata School Board to empower parents to have a voice, improve school safety, get back to the basics & core academics, and ensure the district is transparent and accountabile.
As a parent of three Wayzata students, Laura understands firsthand the importance of safe classrooms, excellent teachers, and clear communication between the district and families. As a nonpartisan candidate, Laura is committed to putting students first, ensuring that every decision prioritizes their safety, learning, and future success.
Laura grew up in Shoreview, MN and graduated from Mounds View High School before attending the University of Minnesota. She earned her Juris Doctorate and law license in Texas where she was a city prosecutor, then practiced civil litigation. Later, she went on to help build one of the largest nonprofit animal rescues in North Texas.
Laura moved back to Minnesota in 2021, to be closer to family and to give her children the opportunity to grow and learn in the Wayzata district.
"I’m running for Wayzata School Board because I believe in this community. Our family moved here because Wayzata is recognized nationally as a premier school district. We have incredible students, dedicated teachers, and a community that cares. Wayzata Public Schools set a high bar for excellence, but I know we can do better. My goals are to improve school safety, reduce classroom sizes, ensure parents have a voice in their child's education, and build a board that operates openly and transparently."

Key Issues
I’m running to make an immediate and meaningful impact in areas that matter most to our students, teachers, and parents. My commitment is to listen, to act, and to help ensure Wayzata schools continue to be a place where every student can thrive.

School Safety
Students learn best when they feel supported and secure. That means prioritizing mental health and emotional well-being, while also ensuring clear discipline and strong protections against violence or disruption.

Fairness in Girls' Athletics
Biological differences create real performance gaps, and ignoring them undermines decades of progress since Title IX. We must preserve fair competition and ensure school policies protect equal opportunities for biological girls to compete.

Classroom Funding
District expenses continue to outpace revenue. Inflation is still a problem. I will bring a pragmatic approach to the budget process that prioritizes resources for the classroom, starting with our talented Wayzata teachers.

Planning for the Future
Wayzata is growing, and the board must plan smartly—on facilities, enrollment, and budgets. We need open decision-making and genuine community input so parents, teachers, and students have a voice in shaping the district’s future.

Feedback to Action
Some teachers and parents have felt unheard. Students are looking for more representation. The board needs a consistent, transparent process for gathering feedback and building trust with the community.

Parent Involvement
Parents are a child’s first teachers, and their voices must help shape district decisions. I’ll ensure families are informed, included, and respected—because students thrive when teachers and parents are partners in their education.
